THE JOHNSON TWIN’S FUNDRAISER Lydia and Gwenyth Johnson (Twin Daughters of Dan & Sara Johnson and Grand-Daughters of Pastor Wally & Cindy Obinger) will require months of healthcare needs and your donation will graciously go towards their medical expenses. Please come for a fun evening out and donate to help support this new family in need on Saturday, February 4th from 4:00 pm–12 Midnight at the Clarion Hotel, 701 Concord Street South, South St. Paul. Free Admission. Join the Fun: 4-5:00 pm – Live Music/Silent Auction Begins; 5-8:00 pm – Open Karaoke; 8-9:00 pm – Silent Auction Ends/Distribution; and 9-12 Midnight – Live Music.

ANNUAL MEETING Our Annual Meeting of the congregation will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, February 5 in the Social Hall. After the meeting, we’ll enjoy a potluck lunch. Annual Reports are available to members of the congregation outside the office in the Narthex. Please bring a dish to share at the potluck lunch and plan on attending the Annual Meeting. All confirmed members are eligible to attend and vote.
SOUPER BOWL SUNDAY! Yes, I meant Souper Bowl Sunday! On Super Bowl Sunday, February 5th, the youth will be participating in the national Souper Bowl of Caring event to tackle hunger in our communities. When you come to church on February 5th, there will be two large soup bowls representing the two teams in the Super Bowl. We are asking the congregation to bring food items to put in the soup bowl of your choice. We will announce the winner of Souper Bowl Sunday in the bulletin the following Sunday. All donations will be going to support Neighbors, our neighborhood food shelf!
MEN’S BIBLE STUDY Please feel free to join us on Thursday morning, February 9 at 8:00 a.m. in the church Lounge. All are welcome! Call the church office if you have any questions.
SWEETHEARTS DINNER For all of the sweethearts at LMC, the Sweethearts Dinner will be hosted by the LMC Youth on Saturday, February 18th at 5:00 p.m. Enjoy live music and a delicious dinner at this most entertaining event. All money raised from this event will go to support the LMC Youth group. Keep an eye out for details; they are shortly on their way.
ASH WEDNESDAY Lent begins Ash Wednesday, February 22nd. Service Times: 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Soup & Sandwich meals will be provided immediately following the 11:00 a.m. service and preceding the 7:00 p.m. service from 6:00 - 6:45 p.m. All are invited to attend!
TOOL KIT FOR CONGREGATIONAL LEADERS This educational experience provides basic information and resources to equip you in the roles and responsibilities you have agreed to fulfill … and, sometimes, in those that are unexpected! It takes place on Saturday, February 25 from 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Online registration is available at www.spac-elca.org or you may fill out a registration form. Deadline for registering is February 20th. Cost is $15 per person payable to Saint Paul Area Synod, 105 University Avenue West, St. Paul, MN 55103. There are 7 different Morning Sessions from 10:45 a.m. – 12 Noon and 7 different Afternoon Sessions from 12:45 – 2:00 p.m. They fill up fast, so get your selections in today. (See Bulletin Board for class descriptions.)
FOSTER CARE … INTERESTED? There is a great need for foster parents in Northern Dakota County. Come to the Lounge at LMC on Sunday, February 26th at 9:45 a.m. and listen to an educational presentation by Dakota County foster care workers. It will touch your heart.
MID-WEEK LENTEN SERVICES There will only be (1) Lenten service on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. (beginning February 29th). This will temporarily replace the WOW service that took place at 6:30 p.m. A Soup & Sandwich meal will be provided from 5:45 – 6:40 p.m. each week. WOW will resume again on Wednesday, April 11th after Easter. We pray that you will be able to attend.
YUMMMM … SOUP’S ON! Very soon, there will be a sign-up board in the Narthex for preparing Soup & Sandwich Meals for Wednesday evenings during Lent (from 5:45 – 6:40 p.m. preceding the 7:00 p.m. service). Any Ministry Teams, groups or individuals are welcome to make the soup and do set-up and clean-up. Also, we’re always looking for volunteers to bring in bars and/or desserts. YOUTH COOKBOOKS The new cookbooks are coming! Thank you to one and all for your submissions; we received over 400! We will begin selling them at LMC on Sunday, March 11th. We will be offering recipe samples in the Social Hall during the social hour. Please come with room in your stomach to try the recipes and money in your wallet to buy a copy of the book. All proceeds go toward the work of the LMC Youth group.
LAY SCHOOL OF THEOLOGY This is a program of informal non-credit classes taught by seminary professors for laypersons who want to learn more about matters relating to their Christian faith and life. It takes place on the Luther Seminary campus during five consecutive Mondays. Evening classes meet from 7-9:00 p.m. in Northwestern Hall, 1501 Fulham Street, St. Paul. Daytime classes meet from 12 Noon – 2:00 p.m. in Stub Hall, 2329 Hendon Avenue, St. Paul. Registration can be done online at www.luthersem.edu/layschool. The fee per course is $60. Those who register for 3 or more courses at one time pay $55 per course.
Classes being offered this Spring (March 19 – April 15) include: “The New (and Old) Religions Around Us” (12 Noon – 2:00 p.m.); “How the Bible Came to Us: Its Writing, Use and Authority” (7 – 9:00 p.m.); “Daily Prayer and Worship” (7 – 9:00 p.m.). Details of these classes and additional information on the Lay School of Theology can be found in the brochure posted on the Bulletin Board.
ANNUAL RUMMAGE SALE Our Annual Rummage Sale will be held Thursday, April 26 through Saturday, April 28. Go ahead … clean out your closets! Please start to bring items to the church on Tuesday, April 24 and put prices on them that you feel are fair. Take advantage of the cold weather and de-clutter your homes before Spring arrives. |
