Pastor’s Reflections – February, 2012 February will be a month of Transitions and Potlucks at Luther Memorial. The first two Sundays we will enjoy Potlucks around our Annual Meeting and Mary George's Farewell. After 9 years as our Executive and Financial Secretary, Mary has resigned to transition with her recently retired husband, Bob, into “Travelers” exploring the splendor of our beautiful nation starting February 16th. The congregation will say Farewell to her on Sunday, February 12. I hope many will join us at the 10:00 a.m. Worship Service followed by the Farewell Potluck.
Mary's leaving means that we will hopefully have a new person in place by mid-February. Please be welcoming, and understanding if they don't do things “like Mary did.” There will be significant Transition in our Church Office for a while. However, we will find a new normal eventually, and perhaps discover that God will provide all we need and more! I will certainly miss Mary's partnership at LMC as much as anyone, but I wish for her and Bob many happy years of travel.
The other Transition is our annual Lenten pilgrimage that will begin on Ash Wednesday, February 22. Each year the start of Lent gives us opportunity to refocus our busy lives as we follow Jesus to the Cross of Good Friday and the Empty Tomb of Easter morning. Death and Resurrection are the themes of Lent starting with Ash Wednesday's reminder that we are dust, and to dust we will return. Ash Wednesday provides for me the annual reminder that the things of this life are temporary. It calls us back to our Creator and Redeemer who overcame Sin and Death so that all who believe in Him will have eternal life.
As members of the body of Christ we love and support each other through times of transition and difficulty. Cindy and I want to Thank You for supporting our family with your prayers and encouragement since the birth of our Twin Grand-daughters in late November. Lydia and Gwenyth were 3 months pre-mature but they are making good progress with the help of the wonderful caregivers at Children's Hospital in St. Paul. Their parents - Sara and Dan Johnson, have really appreciated the care of so many for them and their girls! If you can make the February 4th Fundraiser for them, they would love to Thank You personally.
See you in church...and around, Pastor Wally |
